Jonas Forejtek – US Open Juniors Champion 2019

Thu, 19.09.2019

With Jonas Forejtek winning the US Open, the Alexander Waske Tennis-University is overjoyed, to have a Junior Singles Grand Slam Champion in the ranks. The title is a great approval for 6 years of hard work together with the TU team.
After a confident two sets win against the eleventh seeded Brandon Nakashima in the semi-final, the whole TU team was keeping the fingers crossed for sundays final.
In a tough first set, the Czech lost mighty close in the tiebreak.
But just like in the quarter finals against the german surprise contender Milan Welte, Jonas proved his fighting spirit after loosing the first set. Right from the first point on, he played forceful and confident tennis in the second set. Following an early break, Emilio Nava seemed taken by surprise.
Linking to the distinct 6:0 in the second set, our top talent managed to continue dominating the match in the third set, winning it 6:2. Over the whole match, he could rely on his serve, conceding not a single break.
Besides a very mature playing performance, Jonas also demonstrated his mental toughness.
An aspect, also Alexander Waske wanted to mention: „The past 18 months he worked very hard on his mindest, he became a very tough competitor winning lots of matches after losing the first set, which was not the case before.“
With winning the US Open title, Jonas crowned a stunning season 2019.
In January, he won the Australian Open Juniors doubles, alongside Dalibor Dvrcina. Only six months later he was able to get the second Grand Slam title under his belt by winning the Wimbledon trophy together with his countryman Jiri Lehecka.
A continuous development, that shows, the hard work at the TU pays off.
As a twelve year old Jonas came from Pilsen to our academy in Offenbach. From the first day on he appeared as a grounded, open-minded boy. Characteristics, he hasn’t forgot despite his rise. „He earned his latest success by putting in daily hard work and toughness in his sessions and tournaments. But the part we are most proud of is that Jonas remains, after theses victories, a very humble and friendly person that is respectful and a fair sportsman.“, expresses a satisfied Alexander Waske about the new number one in ITF Juniors Rankings.
Despite the triumph, there isn’t too much time for celebration. Already the next day Jonas needed to catch his flight to Bosnia. There he will be on the Czech Davis Cup team for the first time. Another great appreciation for his continuous development.
Also Jonas himself sees the US Open title as a steppingstone on his constant process of development. [Winning a Grand Slam] in singles is just unreal. […] It’s big motivation also for the future and I can get a lot of experience from this.“

Dear Jonas, the whole TU team is incredibly proud of you ! We look very much forward to accompany you on your further way !
