MARTIC`S FAIRY TALE AT ROLAND GARROS ENDS IN ROUND OF LAST 16
Our Croatian TU Player Petra Matric reached the round of last 16 at the French Open in Paris!
After a long term injury last and this year she repeated her biggest success. Because of her long injury timeout Petra was ranked #290 and had to play the qualification.
She won her first two matches in the qualification very confident against Irina Falconi ( 6:1; 6:3) and Tamara Korpatsch ( 6:0; 6:4). In a dramatic and very close final Petra won against Maryna Zanevska with 7:6 6:7 7:6 and reached a spot in the main draw of the French Open.
In the first round of the main draw she proved her good performance and won against Kateryna Bondarenko with 6:2 7:5. In the second round Petra faced 12th seeded Madison Keys. Martic showed a great fight against Keys as she turned around the match after loosing the first set with 3:6. She won the match with 3:6 6:3 6:1. In the third round Petra again had to face a seeded player, Anastasija Sevastova (#17). She surprised with a great performance and won in straight sets in just 49 minutes with 6:1 6:1 and booked her spot in the round of the last 16!
Her opponent in the round of the last 16 was 5th seeded Elina Svitolina. In a high-class and impressive match Petra unfortunately lost with 6:4 3:6 5:7. Again Martic almost produced another big surprise, as she lead with 5:2 in the final set. Even though she did not reach the quarterfinals she tied her record at a Grand Slam. After 2012 she reached again the round of last 16 at the French Open. Because of her success Petra will be ranked under the best 130 players and climbed 160 spots up!
